The idea to use glass for the production of nail files is over 50 years old and originally came from Switzerland, where it was first patented. The production process used now is based on totally different technologies and that’s why the current glass nail files are of the highest quality. The glass nail file is an ideal tool for essential nail care; it does not matter if the nails are natural or synthetic. A chemical process using acid etching creates abrasive surfaces. Glass scent bottles
Only in the 20th century did it become commonplace to buy perfume and bottle together as a complete package.
Shapes of bottles have, over the years, been influenced by many different factors. Nineteenth century flacons were produced in a wide range of sizes, materials and shapes, for both decorative and practical purposes. Because of their corsets, Victorian women were prone to fainting, and double-ended scent bottles were designed to contain perfume in one half and sponge soaked in aromatic vinegar in the other. Miniature bottles, worn like jewellery, enabled ladies to keep their scent with them at all times. By the early 1900s customers were giving up mixing their own perfume in favour of buying named brands. The 20th century saw the massive commercial expansion of the perfume industry dominated by couturiers such as Chanel and Dior. Glass ingredients
Glass is a cooled liquid, the basic ingredient being silica, usually in the form of fine sand, with the addition of alkaline fluxes such as soda or potash. The mixture of raw materials is called the batch and, according to the type of glass being made, includes other ingredients such as lime or lead oxide. Cullet, or broken glass, is also added to aid fusion. The finished glass is called the metal. There are a number of ways of colouring glass. Metal oxide can be added, the resultant colour depending on the amount used and the quality.
Renaissance of Coloured glass
The range of colours produced increased considerably during the 19tn century. The best cranberry, or ruby glass, was derived the gold sovereigns that factory managers would fling into the pots of molten glass. Blue is the easiest to achieve, and yellow and orange are the most complex. Other colours were achieved by the addition of various amounts of metallic oxides.
Silvered Glass making technique
Silvered glass was made with double walls which were silvered in the middle with mercury and then sealed in the base to prevent oxygen from turning the silvering black. Sometimes the outside was layered with coloured glass which was engraved or cut to reveal the silver underneath.
Silvered Glass Fact
-Silvered Glass is often called “Varnish” glass after Edward Varnish.
History
of “EVANS” - glass art
Studio
Evans, its innovations, skill and creative potential
Today the majority of readers “Style of glass” are probably familiar with
studio Evans.
We shall tell about its
development and the international cooperation from the sources. Narrating about
it, we shall familiarize more close with some designers working above this
project: whence they also that they can tell about themselves.
Evans is not enough to tell about
a command of studio, that it is simply strong professionals. They artists in a
command representing a uniform complex and a variety simultaneously, as well as
works which they create. Though the attention of the company is focused, first
of all, on decorative art glass, the command of designers applies the talents
in all sides of creation. Glass from Evans causes the emotional immediate
answer in any who sees it. The first idea which occurs at a kind of their
works: « is improbably! Who is capable to make though something similar ».
Objectively speaking, each member of a command bears the responsibility for the
part of work. Actually the studio Evans is a result of a unique combination, an
innovation, modern design and old school.
