Some
glass facts
- Early lead glass has a greenish tinge, while later
techniques produced progressively more transparent glass.
- Lead glass should emit a clear ring when tapped
gently with a fingernail.
- Coloured glass was not popular until c1850, when it
was used to produce bottles, decanters and tumblers.
- The term "crystal glass" is used to
describe high-class colorless glass, often containing lead.
